Random Thoughts and Updates

Today is the Senior Sage's Birthday. After all the medical issues that have taken place in the past year it is good to see this milestone has been marked. His resilience is amazing and the rate of healing is increasing exponentially. All that will remain is patience as he learns to  apply the medical components.

Today is Earth Day! Around the world people are celebrating and looking to promote means of saving this little blue ball. Reducing greenhouse gases and more recycling are big concerns as is the concept of global warming. Which is not really a concept. The polar ice caps are melting. The world's oceans are rising. The evidence is as plain as the nose on the Tangerine Tyrant's face. Except in Florida. The shellfish harvesters in Florida can no longer access their source as the shellfish beds are all under water even at low tide. In an article that my Better Half pointed to these Floridians are under the impression that it is just a seasonal cycle. Sure, if your seasons swing in 10,000 year increments. The American denial of scientific facts sure seems to stem from the top of the heap. Go figure.

Our Sr. Loin Fruit is home from his first year in university. There is a chance that he may actually have passed all of his courses. We have our fingers crossed. Now, he is now an adult and is responsible for all of his actions, appointments, etc. Late last night I awoke and saw his light still on at O-Dark 30. I was going to remind him that rest is good for the body (in other words...go to sleep) when my Lobster reminded me that he is now an adult (so give him all the rope he wants). He has a practicum in his field of study to complete but no employment as yet. So, the list of chores will be substantial to keep him busy.

I have come to realize that as we age we move closer to the planet Kronos. Yes, Kronos. The mythical planet from the Star Trek series that is the home world of the warrior race of peoples know as Klingons. Why do I think that our elderly are from Kronos? Think about it. The elderly are irratable and grumpy most of the time. Persistently argumentative and ready to fight. Elder-speech is often outdated, gutteral and involves a fair amount of spitting. Ach! Tasch tatway. Bacrrsh! Idonna like occlee sooops!  (Translation - Take that away. I don't like broccoli soup.)
It should be noted that The Oma-nator had been visiting the Wayward Inn for a couple of weeks prior to this observation. Just saying.

Is it mean to make a comment about the intelligence level of an animal even if it's a pet?

I think it is but my Better Half is under the impression that you can hurt their feelings. I admit that if you are admonishing a dog for pissing on the rug the tone of your voice is what the dog is reacting to and not the actual words. So, last night I said that Miss Maggy Baggy Bits is a Space Kadet with some kind of helmet that cloaks her attentiveness which is why she often sits and looks at...nothing!

I would like to know who is the dumb-ass that thought up the notion of paring back the parking near the four corners of 5th and Fitzgerald. I would guestimate one and a half parking spaces on each side of four corners. That's twelve spots, if you can do the math. Each spot is cordoned off with stop signs now positioned out in the lane. I have a nasty feeling that some area beautification is about to happen. Planters and seating benches. All that is going to happen is create a place for garbage to pile up and make it more difficult clean the street of snow in the winter.

If you happen to be driving in the Valley find alternate routes through Vanier hill, Headquarters and Piercy and Dyke Road. All of these areas are involved in heavy construction. I would suggest that you adjust your travel times accordingly and I would remind you that you are on the Island so there is no reason to drive like an asshole.

The end of another day. My Better Half and I are trying to get the mobile Wayward Inn ready. There is a small hiccup in our plans. I am not getting any 12v power through to the trailer which means I have a dead short or the power converter is toast. What ever it is I hope is an easy fix.

Projects

14 Apr 17

A minor Major project has been completed at the Wayward Inn.  The book house that my Better Half requested for her birthday has been installed. I over heard a neighborhood minion call out to his friends "Come see this! It's the coolest thing ever!" Made me feel really good!

It is the Easter and Passover season. Now, I don't care if you believe in the Faith Based Stories or not but this is an opportunity for mankind to step forward and do the right thing. There is always a warm feeling that rests deep down inside when you help people just for the sake of helping. Recently, a scout had lost all of his camping equipment in a house accident. The kid is keen and dedicated. His parents, separated and uncooperative. Do you standby and let the scout slip into running the streets or do you step up and help out? Enter Scouter Santa and surprise surprise the scout was outfitted with the basic equipment needed. No names and no pack drill.

My goodness the coffee is good! I love my coffee. I especially love stealing that first cup before the machine hasn't finished it's job. My Dear Friend Jewels, from Over the Hump, does the same thing. Sometimes when they're visiting I'll give her the "stolen" cup. It's a small gift.

I'm prepping the Mobile Wayward Inn for the coming season. My Lobster and I plan on getting away more often and would like to start sooner. It is very doubtful that the two Loin Fruits will be going with us much more. Adult camping. Whoo Hoo! We will be getting the Japanese Contingent again this summer so that screws up three weekends. She also mentioned something about a 5th Wheel. Say what? Nice, but a bit pricey.

The Jr. Loin Fruit had his Band of Miscreants over to the Wayward Inn until 22:00 hrs. All fun and games. Of course we put out the feed trough. My Lobster had purchased a box of of cherry sodas (12 cans) and had told the Loin Fruit that the BOM could have some. They arrived at 10:30 hrs and we returned by 15:00 hrs. Now our Couch Monkey is not a huge soda drinker but the dozen cans were drained by the time we came home. Home made cookies, nachos, cake. Gone. My Better Half clearly says that they are akin to locusts.  I concur.

The day is all but done here at the Wayward Inn. Tomorrow, Chef Blaine is looking to grill some thick chops on the Flame Pit with some home made apple rum compote to top it off. He's still looking for some canoli tubes too. So, if anyone know where he can get some please drop him a line.

The word is that on weekdays, between 08:00 and 16:00, anyone driving between the two major centres in the Valley should avoided at all costs. The traffic in the Valley is only going to get worse in the coming years. My only hope is the collective town councils recognize this before we reach grid lock.

The Return & Interesting Guests

04 Apr 17
22:45 hrs

I am going to start this by saying that the surgery on the Senior Sage went quite well but recently there has been a serious set back. More later.

07:15 hrs

Yes, a serious set back and the Senior Sage is back in hospital. But, on a good note the medical care is proving to be a God Send. Now, time will only tell as to how fast he heals.

Li'l Sis is doing well in Cow Town.  Working too hard and not enough socialization outside of the digital screen. It was great to spend time with her and I  wish her all the best.

I returned back to the Wayward Inn to the welcome arms of my Lobster, The Oma and her Fri(end). Both The Oma and her Fri(end) were European immigrants to Canada. Both had lived in Europe during WWII but they are from different countries and on different sides of the fence. Additionally, they are from different sizes of communities and theological backgrounds. It's a lot to take in especially when the effectiveness of one's verbal filter is inversely proportional to ones age.

Yesterday was the Jr. Loin Fruit's birthday. Seventeen years young. Where has the time gone? Last Saturday we took him and his Band of Miscreants to Boston Pizza for his Bday supper. After filling their collective faces the caravan returned to the Wayward Inn. An hour or so later my Better Half ran them to their respective cages. Nice kids really.

Locally, construction of the second portion of the new road crossing the Tsolum River is underway. Nice and wide to accommodate the influx of traffic along the corridor. Eventually thete will be a road from the Little River ferry along the north side of Beaver Meadows farm linking to Veterans Way. This will allow traffic to move from the ferry directly to the Inland Highway without coursing through town. It's not a lot of traffic that will opt out of the multitude of traffic lights but any reduction will be welcome especially since our Town Fathers have their collective heads in the sand when it comes to traffic planning. The other new project that has just began is some new water lines along Dyke Road from the 17th Street Bridge to the Ko'mox First Nations land. In other words, expect a I'm delay along the Dyke for the for see able future.

Chef Blaine has been requested to make Creme Brule for the Jr. Loin Fruit. It's all about the timing. You'll probably see him with his headphones on to avoid questions from the peanut gallery. He may put on his chef's jacket but that will elicit questions so I would suggest that he doesn't.

What is truly interesting is that Chef Blaine gets to play his favourite kitchen game... "Where did Oma put it?" Only this time the amount of curiosity is squared. Where are my knives? In with the spatulas. Where is the can opener? In the pots drawer of course. Is it frustrating? Sure is. But does it hurt anything?  No. The Oma wants to help and we let her. Sometimes it takes four months before we re-locate everything. That's four months of extra love.

The Snowbirds are in the Valley for their annual practice sessions. I haven't heard how long they will be here. Usually it's two week but depending on the weather it can be as long as three. The best place to view them is by the air park on Military Row and at Airforce Beach. Enjoy them while they are here.
