And the results are in...

So the 2014 civic election results are in and there have been a few surprises. The mayoral races ended with all encumbants being re-elected.  Mind you the town sheriff for the Wild Wild West had no opponent and therefore won by acclamation. Courtenay's mayor - Larry the "Jaguar" Jangula was also looking for an acclamation win until former councillor Jon Ambler said "Wait a minute. Democracy means you have a choice and a one man race is no a choice!" With that, he threw his name in the hat. The results...well, the Jaguar was re-elected but Mr. Ambler gave him a run for his money without even campaigning hard.  More importantly just over 60% over the potential voters had cast their ballots. Now, for a civic election thats huge.

;; The Town of Comox also returned its former mayor to office.  He will be accompanied by six councillors. Three of the ten vying for those six slots all had the last name of "Grant". I may be wrong but it could be a family plot so I voted for none of the above.

The real important part of this civic election was the non-binding referendum on whether or not to charge an added tax of $0, $5 or up to $10 for a property valued at $300K. The monies raised would be used towards projects to aid those who are, shall we say, residentially challenged. I am happy to announce that the notion was overwhelmingly carried. Now, it only has to be passed into law.
