A dear friend flew into town yesterday. My BETTER HALF and I picked her up and went out to Fluid Bar and Grill for some adult time. Now Fluid Bar and Grill is a pretty okay place. Interesting food and not bad prices but the service SUCKS. It was a Sunday night. There were a dozen clients at the most. So, why does it take 20 minutes to get a couple of coffees?
I had ordered the won ton soup and an order of curried wings. My BETTER HALF asked for the Moroccan veggie burger with fries. Our friend wanted the mussel and sausage dish. All good choices. Everything was great. Except there were no condiments provided for my LOBSTER's burger and no spoon for our friend to enjoy the broth in the bowl. In fact, her dish should have included a nice hank of rustic bread to soak up all that lovely juice.
When the server returned to check on us we mentioned the obvious deficiencies but nothing was done about it. When we were finished and asked for the bill we reiterated the problems with the meal. She looked at us in shocked disbelief. However, she was concerned about our experience and spoke to the manager. The outcome was a 20% reduction in our bill.
As a consumer you should expect a good venue, a good product and good service. If you don't get it don't settle for second rate anything. Take your business elsewhere and make sure you tell your friends too. Service industry businesses cannot survive if they don't have customers. At the same time reward those places that excel by telling your friends as well.
Speaking of good eats in the Valley I still have my faves. Best burgers in town check out Chrissy's Lunchbox on Mission Hill. Best pizza...head to Islander Pizza. Up for Chinese food? Well, I've found that the Quality Foods in Comox has what I need. I haven't been to the White Whale yet. Kinda scared to. When the owners bought out the Monte Christo on the River they let all of the staff go and rumour has it the new bodies are not up to scratch.
