I just wanted to fill in a couple of happenings from this past week. On Wednesday I instructed Loin Fruit #2 on the art of shaving. It would appear that some school yard apes have been commenting on his burgeoning peach fuzz. I felt so thrilled. The two of us standing at the sinks in the ensuite. Lathering up and then placing steel to our throats.
My BETTER HALF came up with a witty one that I must share. We were discussing with the Couch Monkeys the concept of respecting the differences in others. To get her point across in a manner that they would understand she sai something to the effect that the breakfast bowl is always more interesting when there are a few fruit loops mixed in with the cheerios. In other words, you don't always have to be part of the flock. Be different. Be a goat!
Does the members of your town's planning commission have their heads up some giant ass? I think ours does. Here in the Valley there is a large amount of available office and store frontage space already available in the downtown area. And yet, these boneheads are allowing a building plan to go through for a multi-level office building right on the main drag. I am not opposed to new construction as long as it has a purpose that will be filled shortly after completion. In the towns that occupy the Valley there is far too many empty offices and store fronts that have been vacated due to rental increases by off shore (out of town) owners. Unless a store occupies its own building their profit margin is going to be eaten up by rent and utilities. But from the building's owners perspective its how much can I charge, how often can I raise the rent and how little do I have to shell out in maintenance costs. Some of the buildings in the Valley's downtown core have been around for 50 plus years. They don't need to be replaced. They need to be filled.
The new hospital is slowly rising out if the ground. That is to say, the walls are being formed. The two construction cranes, on non-windy days, are busy placing the pre-made concrete forms into position for the next section of wall to be poured. I once read how many person years of labour is going into the construction if this hospital. Its an astronomical amount. Now double it as there is another new hospital going up in Campbell River too. This was not the first option. The Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA) originally wanted to build one super hospital between both towns but slightly closer to the Valley as we gave a greater population. For Campbell River-ites, or are they Campbell Riverarians?, this would be a one way thirty kilometer road trip to an emergency room. Not acceptable.
And speaking of Campbell Riverarians (I've decided that this is the correct designation), my LOBSTER's Travelling Relatives may be paying us a visit before they jet off to a far warmer climate in distant Hemispheres. Some place that has Trees and where they may visit La Villa Strangiata. It would all depend on the Circumstances.
